Hello, my name is Bryant Bakkum and I have the great privilege of serving the wonderful people of First & Nativity Lutheran Churches. I grew up in the state of Wisconsin – a small town, Westby, which is nestled in the rolling hills of southwestern Wisconsin. After graduation I attended Minnesota State University, Mankato where I graduated in 2011 with a B.S. in Psychology. I then journeyed up to St. Paul, MN where I began my studies at Luther Seminary where I received my Masters in Divinity in 2015.
What propelled me into wanting to be a pastor were the people I was surrounded with growing up. Family, friends, and other pastors all somehow knew before even I did that being a pastor was my calling. Throughout middle and high school I played the organ for worship services at my hometown church – music has always been and continues to be a driving force in my life. I’m an avid piano player and during Christmastime all you’ll hear me listening to is Mannheim Steamroller.
Outside of serving at First & Nativity and playing piano you’ll most likely find me walking my dogs – Lacy & Kirby. They’re crazy and full of energy, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Also, since I grew up in the Badger State my loyalties lie firmly with the Packers, Brewers, and Badgers. Finally, my life wouldn’t be complete without my beautiful wife, Katie. Without her I wouldn’t be the person I am today.
Feel free to stop by my office and follow my blog where I post my weekly sermons.
